A few weeks ago, Apple launched the Ipad and with that, Ed Dale and Paul Colligan started “Operation Ipad”, a special show/website dedicated to the launch of the Ipad and to kind of test/prove all the amazing things you can do with such a cool device.
But this is not what called my attention, what truly got my attention was that Ed Dale travelled all the way from Australia to Los Angeles just to be there on the first day of launch, and then immediately go back to Australia carrying a bunch of the first Ipads in Australia. Man! that is a 14.5 hours one-way flight just to pickup a toy!
At first, I thought “this guy’s got to be crazy” and I asked my self, “why he just doesn’t wait a few weeks more when the Ipad is finally released in Australia and save the time/money/effort of going to the U.S. to pickup the first Ipads”?”
But then, I gave a second thought to that, and now I think it makes total sense. What happens is that Ed Dale is a Market Leader, and not just a regular one, he is a PASSIONATE market leader and he is more than willing to go to the Moon if necessary to get an Ipad or whatever he thinks is great for his followers.
I guess that such passion is what we all need in order to succeed in our niches. We as aspiring Internet Marketers, are used to create a bunch of niche websites in persue of the quick buck, without truly engaging into the Market and willing to lead. Leading a Market or a “Tribe” as Seth Godin says, requires of passionate leaders and that is why now I think it makes sense that Ed Dale went to the USA, to be among the first few to get an Ipad.
Thanks Ed for this lesson, following you for a couple of years now, I’m now starting to understand you a little bit better. I need to learn from you, and “get married” with a niche market, and commit to lead with passion just like you do.
